Starting Palbo tomorrow

Hello

I am messaging for a bit of morale support. Recently diagnosed with stage 4 breast cancer with mets to the spine. Going to collect the palbocilibib tomorrow and to have my first bone strengthening injection. I have been a complete wreck and very worried about side effects and the meds not working. Feel lost and alone. Not sure how to deal with this. What are the most common side effects. I have been taking Letrozole for the last few weeks and had x2 zoladex injections. Any advice much appreciated xxx

  • Hey Lizee,

How did you get on today? I'm sorry I'm a little late in offering moral support but I hope everything went well and you're feeling a little less lost and alone.

You can find out more about Palbociclib and its side effects on our website but if you'd like to discuss any of this further with one of our cancer nurses, they're just a phone call away on 0808 800 4040, Monday - Friday between 9a.m - 5p.m.

Hopefully some of our members who have experience of taking this cancer drug will share their experiences and advice with you soon as well but in the meantime, we're all thinking of you and will be sending good wishes your way for the rest of your treatment.

    Kind regards,

  • Hi Steph

Thank you for your message.  Today I had my first Xgeva injection for the bone mets. They also gave me the palbociclib. I haven’t taken one yet, I think I will start them at the weekend. It was my first visit to the heamotology chemo ward. Something I never thought I would see. All still quite surreal but the nurse there was lovely. A bit scared still about taking the pills. I was thinking that it maybe a good idea to take them at night after a meal? Thank you xx

  • I'm sorry for the late reply Lizee and that no-one else has been able to get back to you since you made this post.

I'm not sure if you have started your medication now, but if you're still unsure on the best way to take your pills, do be sure to get in touch with your GP or cancer team as they'll be in the best position to advise.

Our team of cancer nurses may be able to help as well, so if you'd like to their get thoughts on this, you can contact them next week on the number I gave you in my previous post.

I'm sorry I can't be of more help but I hope you're able to get some information and advice soon and that all goes well with this medication.

    Kind regards,

  • Hi Steph

Thats no worries, thank you for contacting me again. I will just see how it goes. As you know everything is overwhelming and you can’t see the wood for the trees. Hoping that this drug will help me. I am worried because I normally get side effects from medication and the list of potential side effects on these are a bit alarming. I will just make a note of everything. Thanks so much Steph xx
