Grandmother recently diagnosed.. feeling numb

My grandmother has been diagnosed with cancer, I was told yesterday.

She's had a lump in her neck and mouth for 3 months but she has kept it to herself, she went to see a consultant who knew it was cancer by looking at her neck, she's also been told it's aggressive, she has to have more tests and figure out what stage and type etc.

I'm currently feeling numb as my Grandmother pretty much brought me up and I spent almost my childhood with my grandparents (I'm 28 now) I've also recently moved cities and instantly regret it. Can someone help me please? I'm not sure what to do.

  • Hi Dmma94, so sorry about your Grandmother.  First of all, just because a cancer is aggressive this doesn't mean that the patient has no chance of survival.  Your Grandmother might still have a good few years left, it all depends on what the treatment plan is.  I guess what I am saying is don't assume the worst.  I am not going to tell you not to worry, because it is absolutely natural to worry about our loved ones when they become seriously ill.  Take the time to process this shock that you have had and take it from there...........good luck mate, to you and your grandmother, Violet, xx
