Double cancer diagnosis treatment

Hi all my mother has recently been diagnosed with Stage 3 bowel cancer (found in 1 lymph node out of 14). She had surgery with no stoma & is now facing 6 months of Adjuvent chemo FOLFOX. All going well so far- not many side effects (fingers crossed)... however 1 month before the bowel cancer diagnosis at routine mammogram something showed up on breast!  Biopsy has just come back with very early stages of breast cancer not even sure what stage at the moment but most likely stage 1a/1b  (not linked to the bowel cancer they think).. Just wondering if anyone has found themselves in similar postion. Surely if it was metastic it would have spread to a nearer organ (breast just seems too far up body) or have we just got unlucky?  and if so did they stop your treatment & start you on something else? very early stages at the moment so hoping for positive news, hoping FOLFOX might even shrink/kill the breast cancer off (but thats a longshot i know!!)

Sorry for waffling on it has been the worst few months of our lives. So any help would be appriciaited here xx

  • Hello Slr19900

I'm so sorry to hear about your Mum's situation. To have been through her initial bowel cancer diagnosis and surgery and now to be about to start chemo and facing a second cancer diagnosis in her breast ... well it's understandable that these past few months have been incredibly difficult for you all.

It's really good to hear that the breast cancer is in the very early stages and hopefully this will mean that the treatment options for this diagnosis won't interfere with her bowel cancer treatment. However, I'm going to suggest that you give our team of nurses a call. I'm sure that they will be happy to talk things through with you and offer any advice, information, and support that they can. They'll likely be able to help you think about some of the questions that you/your Mum may want to ask when she next attends her appointments. If you'd like to speak with them they're available Monday to Friday 9 am to 5 pm on 0808 800 4040.

Keep in touch. Let us know how she gets on over the coming weeks/months.

    Best wishes,
