Triple negative BC - CT results, bad news given over phone?

Hi

I'm probably asking the impossible but I've been diagnosed with triple negative bc a couple weeks ago thats spread to lymph nodes in armpit.

I'm starting chemo on Wednesday 4th May. Follow by mastectomy later on after chemo finished.

Last Monday I had a ct can on chest, stomach and pelvis.

I'm going into to have a picc line fitted on Tuesday 3rd May in the morning but i've just received a letter to say the my oncologist is going to call me on the afternoon of the 3rd - it doesn't say what for but I'm guessing its my scan results.

Would they tell me if it was bad news on the phone?

As I said I'm asking the impossible, and I know you guys aren't psychic. But considering a spread would mean it going from potentially curable to incurable I would like to think it would be a face to face meeting.

Thanks in advance x

  • Hi Nic,

i am sorry to meet you here and am sorry too read your Diagnosis. I was diagnosed with Idc in October and have just finished chemo.

Of course I can't say but from my Experience My results were always in person. You could ring your breast care nurse on Tuesday if you needed too she might shed some light on it.

i hope you find Chemo okay, it's not as bad as you think.

    kindest regards Sarah

  • Hi nic sorry to hear,I'm also triple negative and yes you do  normally go into hospital to see the oncologist, try no to worry chemo really isn't that bad, just remember to take something to read with you and some snacks x

  • Hello all, my name is Marie and I'm 49 and will be 50 on the 25th May. I'm probably menopausal now as I haven't had a period for approximately 12 months or more.I found a lump in my left breast a few weeks ago and my Gp red flagged me for an appointment at the breast clinic which I have on Tuesday 3rd May which I'm dreading. I've since found another small lump in my left brest in the upper outer quadrant of my breast. I have had severe left shoulder blade pain for a few months radiating into my neck and sometimes nerve pain  down my arm into my fingers. Initially I thought it was related to chronic back pain which I've had for 11 years, multilevel cervical and lumbar disc drgeneration and scoliosis. Howeve it's normally my lower back that causes me pain with severe nerve pain down the sciatic nerves in both legs. I had 2 failed discectomy and depression surgeries in 2013 and 2014 and then had a spinal cord stimulator implanted into my spinal canal for nerve pain..However I had to get it surgically removed after having it for 6 years last year when I was in hospital for 2 months and needed an MRI scan. Initially the doctors thought I had lymphoma but the biopsies showed I had pulmonary sarcoidosis and neurosarcoidosis. Not a particularly nice diagnosis. I'm really hoping it's a flare up of sarcoid and I can definitely feel enlarged lymph nodes in my left armpit and pressure in my sternum again where the lymph nodes were enlarged last time with sarcoid. I'm.also worried it could be lymphoma as there is a condition called sarcoid-'lymphoma syndrome.I had to retire from my job as a ward sister in 2017 because I was constantly in pain and unable to do my job anymore so retired through ill health. However the shoulder blade pain is new and wakes me up at night. I'm terrified that I might have breast cancer or even a pan coast tumour as it can cause shoulder blade pain. Has anyone else had shoulder blade and neck pain as a symptom of breast cancer? Sorry for the long winded story..being a nurse isn't always good as I have knowledge of certain conditions. How quickly were any of you diagnosed with breast cancer when seen in the breast clinic? I was told to be prepared for my appointment to last between 3 and 4 hours. Just so terrified as my lovely Dad has terminal lung cancer at the moment and we are nursing him at home. I really don't want my family to  have to deal with more bad news. I know I'm getting ahead of myself here but just trying to be realistic and prepared if it is positive.
