Prostate Biopsy

Hi All.

I had a prostrate Biopsy 2 weeks ago as my PSA was so high.

I had general anesthetic . The next day I was peeing blood then I couldn't pee at all was given a catheter to have for 2 weeks do you guys think I will. be able to pee on my own again when it's removed .

I'm so worried I wont.

Any advice please

  • Hello PMK

I'm sorry to hear that you've had some problems passing urine since your prostate biopsy. I know that we've had other men here on the forum previously who have had the same issue post-biopsy and have needed a catheter for a few weeks until everything settled again.

Hopefully you won't have to wait too long for your biopsy results and when the team decides the time is right to remove the catheter that things will be back to normal.

In the meantime, if you'd like to chat things through with one of our nurses you're most welcome to give them a call. I'm sure they will be happy to offer any advice and support that they can. they're available Monday to Friday 9 am to 5 pm on 0808 800 4040.

Do let us know how you get on.

    Best wishes,

  • Hi Jenn thanks for the advice .My biopsy results are not good ,had a CAT scan yesterday to check it has not spread ,had bone scan which was negative ,just a question of waiting to get advice on treatments.

Only just got over chemotherapy for non Hodgkin lymphoma.

Will phone the nurses next week .

    Once again thanks.

  • Hello PMK

I'm sorry to hear that. It's always hard to hear that kind of news. It's good though to hear that your bone scan was clear and hopefully you won't have to wait too long for your CT results. Most people find once they have all the information and they know what the next steps are in terms of treatment that things are a little less worrisome.

We do have some information on our website about prostate cancer that you may find helpful and yes give the nurse team a call next week. I'm sure they will be happy to help. We've lots of men here on the forum who have been through treatment for prostate cancer or who like [@Billygoatt]‍ have lived with it for quite a number of years. Have a look at Billy's profile and you'll be able to read his story. I'm sure it will give you some hope.

Keep in touch PMK and we'll do our best to support you over the coming weeks and months.

    Best wishes,
