I can only speak for thyroid as that is my diagnosis but normally thyroid cancers have a very good prognosis.
Im sure you have a lot on at your mind at the moment perhaps consider reaching out to the Mcmillan advice line or Mcmillan support at your fathers hospital normally they are great to have a chat with and I found that they have been very informative along my cancer journey.
