Tamoxifen and mirena coil

Hoping for some personal experiences.

I was on the mirena coil for 12 years. Removed after grade 2, stage one Er+ 8/8 pr+ 8/8 IDC. Lumpectomy and soon radiotherapy.  My breast surgeon asked me to remove the coil. The oncologist suggests putting it back to help with preventing thickening of the womb whilst on tamoxifen. I've read up and it's mixed views on the benefits vs risk.

Anyone have experience or read any medical papers on this?

thank you

  • Hello Agapanthus

I'm sorry to read that you find yourself in this position of uncertainty. Hopefully, if we've any members who have personal experience of using Mirena following a breast cancer diagnosis they will post to share their experiences with you.

We do have some information here which may be of help to you but in the meantime don't forget that you can call to talk to our nurses if you think it may be helpful to chat things through with someone. they're available Monday to Friday 9 am to 5 pm on 0808 800 4040 and I'm sure they will be happy to offer any information and advice that they can.

I hope that your radiotherapy goes smoothly over the next few weeks.

    Best wishes,
