Stage4 lung spread to brain and bones and lymph

Hello -  any advise would be much appreciated

our beautiful 84 year old mum had been complaining of a fuzzy head and was  a bit depressed but we thought it was due to lockdown

she had a fall in January 2022, we took her straight to A&E, after 6 hours we were released at midnight with bad bruising

the, what we thought was depression, continued so we insisted on seeing the docter presuming possible dementia - 2 cancelled appointments and following my tears to the receptionist we managed to see her docter - who referred her to the memory clinic

3 days later what seemed stroke symptoms we were rushed into hospital, admitted and found out mum had stage 4 lung, spread to brain, bone and lymph nodes

mum was released, with steroids - we returned for a biopsy and at the follow up at hospital last week we were told no treatment wd be recommended

we are obviously devastated and in shock - mum is not in pain, she has lost weight, but eating well now, admittedly she is frail and a little confused now - but is there anything else we should be doing?  Please help we are desperate - do we try for a second opinion??

  • Hello OurMum

I'm so very sorry to hear about all that your Mum has been through over the past few months and that now she's been given this diagnosis. It's undoubtedly a very difficult time for you all.

I think most people here will understand that you want to make sure that your Mum is getting the very best care and that all options have been explored and discussed. We all want our loved ones to be given the best that can be given.

We do have some information on our website about getting a second opinion that you may find helpful but I'd also suggest giving our team of nurses a call. I know that a lot of people have found it helpful to chat things through and I'm sure that the team will offer any advice, information, and support that they can. If you'd like to speak with them they're available Monday to Friday 9 am to 5 pm on 0808 800 4040.

It sounds as if your Mum has a lot of love and support around her and I'm sure that she's very grateful to have you all with her.

    Best wishes,
