Triple negative breast cancer diagnosis - anyone else?

Hi everyone. Well today completely sucks. Just got back from the hospital and my diagnosis is triple negative grade three breast cancer. Having an mri within two weeks to see if it has spread.
Anyone else in the same boat? I'm feeling completely overwhelmed and lost at the moment!

  • Hi,

I am Louise, 39, and was diagnosed with TNBC on April 1st. Sadly not an April fools.

I completely understand your feelings, I have had an MRI and armpit and nodes seem okay but had CT Monday to be sure no spread. Will get results later today.

Was due to start chemo Monday 18th and on Wed didn't feel well so took LFT and I have covid! Chemo pushed back one week which was really upset about as just want to get started. GP tried to make me see maybe better have covid now rather than once on chemo. Plan for me is chemo then surgery.

After being in a really low and scared place I am now trying to stay positive and focus on getting rid of this. I have 2 kids who are 8 and 10. Telling them was the hardest but I have told them I will get treatment and get better and then we are all off to Florida next year.

Feel free to reach out, your head will be spinning. Take care xx

  • If you're gonna get Covid, you deffo want to get it before chemo. Might not feel like it just now, but now you do have covid, it's actually a good thing you have it whilst your immune system isn't compromised.

We all had covid mid February, and whilst the wife was ok with it, she had to spend a night in hospital with a very high temp, being pumped with antibiotics and then had to go back in to get antibody treatment. You have probably dodged a bullet getting it just now.

  • Hello Lops

I read your other post about waiting for result but knowing it's cancer. It sounds quite like my story. I found a 3cm lump in my R breast and in lymph node and was told this was triple negative. From the day of my biopsy I felt so ill the same as you and I think it was mostly stress. I was diagnosed a few weeks ago so have had a CT scan and MRI. I start chemo 25th April.

I'm not sure how this chat forum works but feel free to contact me

    Take care x

  • Hi, thanks for your reply. Sounds awful, glad your wife was okay! How has she found the treatment. Whilst keen to get started obviously am a little nervous as well about how it will be.

  • She has triple positive. So at the other end of the spectrum from yourself. She had EC and docetaxel. EC was fine, docetaxel knocked her for 6. However, some women are fine on it. She struggled on it.

Luckily, for as nasty as it was, it completely and utterly obliterated the cancer. They couldn't find any on the scans at all, and she initially went in with 4.6cm and 1.5 cm tumours in her left breast, along with 2 lymph nodes under her armpit. But yeah, absolutely no sign of it. She goes in for her op (was supposed to be a mastectomy, but because there's nothing there, it will now be a lumpectomy) on the 28th, then radiotherapy for 15 days starting in May sometime.

The treatment might be harsh for some people, pal, but the results can be amazing. You yourself may not see it yet, but it's that glimmer of light towards the end that will push you towards the end when on chemo.

The thing about chemo, it's accumulative. A lot of people tend to be ok after the first and second doses. My wife was fine all the way through EC other than getting shingles.

  • Hi, oh wow that is amazing that the chemo has got rid of all traces of cancer! Sounds like your wife has had some journey but has been worth every second. Wishing her all the best for her surgery and future treatment.

Spoke to oncologist yesterday and my CT was clear, no cancer elsewhere and lymph nodes look okay. Now just to shift covid and get ready for battle to commence on 25th.

  • That's amazing to hear! Sounds like your wife diagnosis, age,  and treatment plan very similar to mine. I'm also hoping for that complete response before surgery. Can I ask how

many rounds of chemo she had? I am meant to be getting 3 x EC which I have completed followed by 3 x docetaxal/ perjeta/herceptin. Docetaxal is being switched to weekly paclitaxel. I know some Centres treat for 8 cycles total IF it is toerated and wonder if your wife had this and also do you mind me asking -

for the scan that showed all the cancer had gone pre surgery- what kind of scan was that and what timing was it after chemo

    please? Many thanks!

  • I totally agree best get covid done before chemo. When I got is during chemo I missed 2 full weeks and also nearly missed a 3rd - luckily I got back on it on the 3rd week. It also means that scans, appointments etc  need to be rescheduled etc which makes the whole thing very stressful . I had been really careful but even having had covid during chemo I am not convinced my immune system has had the chance to fully respond so that's another plus for getting it before.

a week does seem an age when waiting for chemo. I used the delay before starting chemo to do some exercise / long walks / deep clean your house if you feel up to it - when you feel rubbish and can't do much and know you are immune suppressed it's nice to know that somenof the grotty jobs have been done - but don't overdo it . Good luck with the chemo!

  • Hi, yeah now think possibly was good to get out the way before treatment.

How have you been getting on?

I am due my 2nd chemo on Monday. Been okay after last one so am hoping 2nd not any worse.
