  • Hi Lady_Penelope

So sorry to hear about your diagnosis and the anguish and anxiety you are going through

I was diagnosed with stage 3A HER2 Positive breast cancer on October 25th last year. Like you I was in complete shock that after going to the breast clinic with what I was told was a tiny area of cancer only to find out after the breast MRI that it was stage 3 and spread to my lymph nodes. I had to wait until 25th November to see the Oncologist and started chemotherapy on 7th December. I spent the 6 weeks before chemo researching everything I could including diet organising my wig and preparing myself for what was to come. It helped to talk to friends and family and I read all the leaflets I could get my hands on in Oncology. I had gone through this with my mum 3 times 30 years ago and I was scared stiff. I found that the breast care nurses were brilliant and every time I thought of a question I wrote it down and saved them up. I was very fortunate that I must've been one of the last people to get seen under the "2 week referral" for which I'm grateful. I found out about a charity called Look Good Feel Better who run sessions on various subjects such as wigs/hairloss/nails/beauty to name but a few. It's vital that alongside your treatment that you look after yourself and care for your skin scalp etc. I started 4 rounds of EC chemotherapy which does have unpleasant side effects but everyone is different and there's always medication to help you out. I've now started on my Docataxel and Herceptin which have different side effects and hopefully my last chemo will be on 24th May. I've got my surgery around June time followed by radiotherapy. It's a long road ahead like being on a rollercoaster that you can't get off and it's not easy but with love help support and knowing what you're facing you will get through it. I will be thinking of you over the coming weeks. Keep in touch. Big hugs
