I am so sorry to hear of your husband's situation. This must have left you both devastated. One thing that I have discovered in my 12 year journey with 2 bouts of breast cancer, is that there is no point in worrying about 'what ifs' - life is too precious to waste on what might never happen. Instead look on the positives and seize the day. It is good news that he is managing better with the stent. Try to make the most of each and every day and make memories where you can.

Thank you so much My husband's case is going to mdt and we are hoping the oncologist may have suggestions  I've found some good information here about treatment options We are also hoping  the bloods yesterday will show an improvement in his kidney function Once the stent was in he passed  just over a litre of urine which had obviously been backing up It was constant uti's which has led us to were we are now 

Thanks again Had his 4th booster today so we combined it with breakfast out at one of our favourite restaurant

I m just hoping we can get surgeon to listen He was very negative unlike hoe he has been in the past  I don't know if he was embarrassed he said he wasnt convinced it was cancer after looking at ct scan He said he wasnt one to give false hope and no treatment if it was outside ureter But guy on Macmillan site hS it in ureter and lymph nodes and us having Chemo carb as it's easier on kidney Bloods will take about 5 days but surgeon on holiday to 19th We live near a hospital in Manchester and if I'm not happy with outcome after mdt meeting and discussions I'll ask for 2nd option their Thank you for you replies a big help.Off to  dinner as usual  Sunday to our favourite Italian restaurant He has monkfish tonight

Hi Wilbert,

Maybe you just caught him on a bad day? It is often a good idea to write down any questions you have for your consultant before you attend your appointment. I usually go with 2 sets of questions - 1 for my husband and 1 for myself. As I ask the questions, he writes down the answers. This has been so helpful, as we don't forget to ask important questions and the consultant can't overlook questions he doesn't like.

It will certainly do no harm to ask for a second opinion and you are perfectly within your right to ask for this.

I took list of questions first visit but was expecting good news this time  I  have a long list for next visit Good idea to take 2 pads husband can ask and I will write the answers

We have been thrown a lifeline Surgeon rang my husband's kidney function has improved since the stent was fitted and he now feels removal of the kidney and ureter is viable He is transferring my husband to his NHS list at a large teaching hospital not too far from where we live in Manchester Obviously lot of tests etc before surgery and the prospect is scary But hey live to fight  another day

Hi Wilbert,

This sounds a lot more hopeful. Yes, there are bound to be other tests prior to any procedure and the prospect of surgery is always scary, but it's great to hear that this is a possibility again. I hope that this will be carried out soon, thus helping to reduce your anxiety.
