Hi sadiemarie65
Sorry to hear you have had to have a hysterectomy to remove cancer. How are you feeling? I'm two years post op. Rested a lot in the first couple of weeks, although managed to go out for 5 minute walks building up to longer walks by end of week 2/3. the advice is to rest as much as you can and avoid any cleaning, bending, lifting (even lifting a full kettle is not to be advised!!!!). Generally they say it takes approx 6 weeks to get back to normal (laparoscopic) or up to 12 weeks (abdominal). It's unlikely you will need any further treatment for Stage 1, so fingers crossed you just need to rest up and listen to your body. Do you have people around you to help with household stuff, cooking, cleaning etc? If so , take them up on the offer of help. By resting more at the beginning, your recovery should get a kick start so plenty of rest and eat well. I'm happy to answer any further questions. Good luck with your recovery x
Hi
Thank you for yr reply , yes I had a radical hysterectomy with a cut .
it was stage 1 so no further surgery thank goodness !
I am now on week 5 and my stomach is still very bloated and so sore inside , is this normal ? It doesn't feel it , I was told I could go back to work after 6 weeks ? I don't feel ready at all . The care I had in hospital was second to none but feel like this part had been hard with no one to talk to .
I am lucky to have my mum here helping me too
Ps ... are you still having 3 monthly appointments too ?
how are you feeling now ?
Yes, it's normal! My stomach was bloated and sensitive for a few months and I could only wear elssticated waistbands!!!!!!! I never had a flat stomach before the op and it's definitely not flat now but in time it will become less bloated and sensitive. I was Stage 2, Grade 3 so needed further treatment. Due to covud I had telephone consultations for the first few times then a face to face last year. I'm already going 6/8 months beteeen appointments and funnily enough my next one is next week!! Before the op I did everything in the house, the cllomingckesning shopping school run etc and it wasn't easy losing control of all that but in the first couple weeks I wasnt up to doing much then once got my strength back I just built up doing small things but definitely no housework or driving! Bodies are very clever at repairing if you let them. It's a case of being patient I'm afraid, and if you had abdominal hysterectomy then it will just take a bit longer. Just take each day as it comes. Small steps. x
Thank you so much , you don't know how much this means , I wish you all the best for next week , please let me know how you get on :)
Hiya,
Had hysterectomy just over 2 weeks ago, luckily this was done by keyhole.
Generally doing ok so far and going out for regular short walks. Not much pain thankfully, apart from trapped wind, lol! Avoiding anything too strenuous, my daughter has been helping out which I'm so grateful for. And not driving yet.
Main symptoms at the moment seem to be related to surgical menopause - increased palpitations and insomnia.
Its such a weird experience, isn't it? Have you had your follow up appt yet?
Best of luck x
