It's all in my head?

At 15.00 today I went in to get the results of an MRI on my jaw, to find a growth in my pituitary gland instead.

Being refered to neurology to investigate.

I have had headaches, migraines and dizzy spells for years, and I was told time and again t was my anxiety.

It is jarring to have a different meaning to the phrase 'its all in your head'.

I have told my husband and friend, not sure how to begin to approach with the rest of my family. My COVID delayed wedding reception is on the 8th April.

Just feeling stunned and lost.

  • Hello 14scorpio11,

A warm welcome to our forum. I am so sorry that you were told before that it was all in your head when there was definitely something that needed investigating sooner. I hope you won't have to wait too long to be seen by the neurologist and that you find out soon what this growth in your pituitary gland is. Try not to worry too much if you can as most pituitary gland growths turn out to be benign and I certainly hope it will be the case for you and that it is easily treatable. You can read more about pituitary tumours on this page from our website and Macmillan also have detailed information about pituitary tumours

It's normal to be feeling stunned and lost at the moment as you are waiting to find out more and I hope that you will hear from other forum members who have been in a similar position before and that they will come and share their story with you.

How unfortunate that all this is happening right at the time of your wedding reception.  I hope that you will still manage to have a nice time with your loved ones. I hope you won't have to wait too long before being seen by a specialist. Once you know exactly what you're dealing with and what the treatment plan might be, things will be a lot clearer for you. Keep well away from Dr Google as looking things up online will inevitably bring the worst case scenario and make you worry even more and try and keep busy and distracted while you are waiting to be seen. There are useful tips on this page on how to cope while waiting for important news.

I hope your neurology appointment goes well - we'll be thinking of you and we're keeping everything crossed that everything turns out to be fine.

    Best wishes,
