Atypical endometrial hyperplasia- what did you decide?

Hello,

I posted here before regarding my diagnosis of atypical polypoid adenomyoma, which was diagnosed following a biopsy of two polyps i had removed from my uterus.

Further discussions with my doctor have revealed that this is an indication of atypical endometrial hyperplasia and at 41 I have been told I need a hysterectomy. I have also been offered progesterone and the coil, but this will require regular biopsies and the worry that cancerous cells will be found.

I am finding it tough to make a decision either way and I just wondered what other people decided to do in this situation? I don't want children but at the same time cant bear the thought of surgery. Plus, there's a chance with the coil it might go away, but then again it may not! Any advice welcome. :)

  • Hi,

I was diagnosed with endometrial cancer, which is thought to be stage 1a, grade 1. So was obviously advised to have a hysterectomy.

This I did last week and have to say my recovery has been easier than I thought so far. (Fingers crossed I'm not tempting fate here!)

The surgery was done by keyhole and was straightforward. Stayed in overnight and was discharged the next day. Much less pain than I expected and able to potter about at home ( no lifting/ over exertion of course). I have to inject myself with blood thinners for the next 4weeks but pretty straightforward to do.

At nearly 58, and with the disruptive bleeding / cancer diagnosis, hysterectomy was pretty much essential - I know for yourself there may be other options and consideration but just wanted to share my experience in case it helps!

    good luck xx

  • Hi there,

Firstly I hope that you are well

Wondering if i could have an update on what you decided? I have been given the diagnosis of atypical polypoid adenomyoma too this month and also been given the same options of hysterectomy which is their first choice and the coil and regular biopsies. I too like you have finished my family but am still struggling on deciding whether I want the surgery and the complications that come with an early menopause :/

Again I'm hoping you are well and sorry to ask so many years on, this still appears to be a very rare condition which im sure you are aware of already.

    Sending love xx
