Dendritic cell therapy, has anyone had it?

I am thinking of having dendritic cell therapy. I have stage 3 colon cancer and have tried surgery and chemo.
I'm not sure I'm in the right place but I was only diagnosed 6 months ago.

  • Hello Romanholiday and welcome to Cancer Chat.

It would be good to discuss this with your doctor at your next appointment, if you haven't already. They'd be able to go through possible next steps. There is also information on treatments for colon cancer here and some details on dendritic cells specifically here.

    All the best to you,

  • Thank you for the advice. The treatment has helped those with tumour based cancers who are at any stage 1-4. I may try it if current chemo doesn't work. So far I've had surgery to remove my sigmoid colon and 8 cycles chemo.
My thoughts and prayers to others sufferers of this disease.

  • Hi Romanholiday

I hope your treatment is going as well as can be expected.

Did you look into dendritic cell therapy further? I'm currently looking for a health care provider in the UK that provides this service as I know it's unavailable on the NHS for most cancers

  • I did look into it and it appears to only work for 3 in 10 people. Some genetic tests are needed to find out if you are likely to benefit.

So far the surgery and chemo on the NHS are working for me as I've had 6 scans since op last year and all are clear.
I do intend to get tested for dendritic therapy if my blood tumour markers rise at my next test in October.
My choice of private hospital in UK is in London as they seem to offer every new treatment to suit your type of cancer.
Most of the treatments are not available on NHS due to cost. And the money you pay privately is put into research for all cancer patients. The consultants are top in their field, expert consultants.

The dendritic cell therapy is currently also offered by a hospital in Spain (you only need go to Spain once then they come to UK to your home for follow up treatment) the initial set up cost is around £30,000 then about 12k a year after that as the treatment is on going. I believe this is the lowest price offered in Europe.
A hospital offers dendritic cell treatment but I have not asked about cost yet. They are very helpful if you call (Google phone no).

    God bless.

  • Hi Romanholiday

Thank you for the reply, its so hard to find solid testimonial on DCT, I believe I know the name of the hospital you're referring too in Spain.

I am glad surgery and chemo is working for you, I wish you the very best going forward.

    Thanks again for the reply

  • Hi there, hope you can have DCT and most importantly it works for you.

I have just asked my local MP to ask the Health Minister for alternative treatment for MIBC and also DCT, I await patiently, the outcome.

For people with MIBC who are not eligible for RC or Radiotherapy, I am asking them to find an alternative. Some older people are too ill to have RC and Radiotherapy and therefore, an alternative treatment is urgently required.

  • Hi Romanholiday!  I hope you are doing well. Thank you for sharing this information here, it’s helpful for those who are on the same journey. I’m also looking for DCT for my mom, for colon cancer.

You mentioned that a genetic test was required to determine eligibility for dendritic cell therapy. Would you mind sharing the name of the clinic you worked with?

The reason for asking is that our investigations led us to different places offering the therapy , including a medical Center  in Marbella, Spain,  but when I asked for the clinic’s credentials, or licensing that authorizes them to perform the treatment they offer, any accreditations or certifications, I was provided very vague assurances and nothing on paper. They said my mom was eligible for the treatment only by looking at her hemoglobin from a recent blood test and from the answers she gave in a video consultation with a group of people who presented themselves as the medical team.
I have all good faith in their offer but I want to check their legitimacy in the medical field before we spend the money.
