Basal / Squamous.

My Doctor referred me with a suspected Squamous,  the Consultant told me that it was a Basal . And the I was given a appointment some 10 weeks later to have it excised . I became very worried as it started to grow and change colour , couldn't get a prior appoint to see him again for various reasons .  I was also told biopsies are carried out at the point of excision.

So 10 weeks went by and I saw him again , only for him to say it's grown too big for him to excise and that it was a Squamous.

He urgently referred me to the plastic surgeon for him to do it 3 weeks later . The biopsy report said it was Clarke's level 5 with perineural invasion .

Which metasized into the parotid gland .

I was also told that Basel or squamous that the out come would have been the same .

My question is :-

Is what I was told correct , or would an earlier biopsy been carried out lead to an earlier and more urgent excision.

Regards .
