SVCO stent and head/neck swelling

Hi. After a whirlwind last four weeks of shock, tests, appointments and worry I had a venal stent fitted last Friday morning to sort the symptoms I'd been struggling with for many weeks.

I was just wondering if anyone else has had this SVC stent procedure and if so, did your symptoms fully subside and how long did it take?

After my procedure I have had great benefits but I expected the head/neck swelling to subside quicker. Mind you it took weeks to build up to the point I needed to go into hospital, so I suppose it will take time for my symptoms and appearance to get back to 'normal'

  • Hello MXDenton and a warm welcome to Cancer Chat,

I am pleased to hear that you have had great benefits after the venal stent procedure and I hope that the head and neck swelling will subside soon. Have you had a chance to talk to your medical team about it? They may be able to tell you more about how long it will take for your symptoms to improve dramatically.

Hopefully, other members of the forum who have had this SVC stent procedure will be along shortly to share their own stent experience with you. Macmillan has an information page on SVCO which may be of interest to you.

Feel free also to get in touch with our cancer nurses on this free number 0808 800 4040 if there is anything you would like to ask them. Their line is open Monday to Friday from 9am to 5pm.

I hope that things continue to improve for you and that the head and neck swelling goes away soon.

    Best wishes,

    Lucie, Cancer Chat Moderator
