going private

How easy is it to go from NHS to private for a vital cancer operation ?

  • Most cancer operations are done on the nhs as they have the best personnel and expertise to perform the surgery. Is it because of the delay in the nhs?

  • Hi Miss-Poppy,

You could contact the private hospitals to see what they require from you and your NHS doctors. Usually ypur pathology reports and a referral letter. It depends on whether they have the capacity to accommodate your particular needs. Some departments may be full and do not accept new patients but some departments may happen to have a free slot so that you can be seen and discuss your treatment plans with a specialist within a week.

    Good luck.

  • Hi Miss-Poppy

I would contact the hospital you are wanting to use directly.  It was a private consultant thay discovered my husbands cancer & he actually advised we would be better off going through the NHS and staying with them for treatment as many private hospitals so not have all the relevant personnel readily available; however as you have not specified I'm guessing the treatment you are wanting may not be available on the NHS.

    Good Luck
