pancreatic cancer help

Lost my husband aged 44 to oesophageal cancer almost 2 years ago, and now his mother has just been diagnosed with pancreatic cancer...

I did so much research with my husband and to be honest don't feel up to the trauma of it all again but want to find out for her as much as possible so hoping someone on here can help.

Basically she has a two cm cancerous tumour in the pancreas blocking the bile duct , they are putting a stent in this week (it was picked up after she went yellow).

She has been told it hasn't traveled and could be removed but a ten hour operation which she could easily not survive or be an invalid after (late 70's).

So I think they are thinking just chemo...is this likely to actually knock it on the head for long or is it really only an op that would give her a fighting chance?

If anyone has experience of something similar i would love to hear from you!

  • Hello plebbs,

I'm sorry to hear about your situation and can understnad how you're feeling. There's no way of knowing for sure if the chemotherapy will be enough, but the best people to speak to are her medical team. They will have a better idea of the outcome. It can be difficult to know how to support someone with cancer, especially after what you've been through already. If you need any advice you can find some here, as well as more information on pancreatic cancer treatment here.

Our team of cancer nurse are also available if you wish to speak to someone. You can call them on the freephone 0808 800 4040. Lines are open Monday to Friday between 9am and 5pm.

    I hope this is useful,
