Shocked by diagnosis

Hi to everyone here ...

I have recently been diagnosed with subungual acral lentiginous melanoma in my left thumb, Breslow 5.3mm, 2 mitoses/mm2, pT4a, Stage 2b, no lymphovascular or perineural invasion. I had a full body CT scan with dye yesterday, head MRI with dye on Tuesday next week, and to see the plastic surgeon on Wednesday to discuss amputating my thumb and other treatment.

It's left me and my family in complete shock as this started 3 years ago with a ridge in my thumbnail which developed into a split (there was no colour pigmentation), my GP said it wasn't anything to worry about

Unfortunately I've been told that this type of melanoma is a rare one so I feel like there isn't that much information out there about it and up to now I've tried to resist 'googling'. Is there anyone on this forum that has this particular type of melanoma?

Sending hugs to everyone out there today

  • Hello

I'm so sorry, I have no advice to give but sending lots of love and we'll wishes x

  • Hi Debbikins

So sorry to hear you are going through this, I have stage 3B Acral Melanoma, you may have read some of my posts. Please feel free to message me any time, it's very overwhelming when there is barely any up to date information out there regarding this sub type and it took me a very long time to get through the initial shock especially with the lack of credible information. I've sent you a friend request,  please stay off Google, that was my worst mistake in the early days (((hugs)))

  • Morning Louiseandfin

Thank you so much for your reply and I'm sorry to hear that you have this rotten disease  ... I have made the mistake of googling but obviously not found anything much of real use. Still waiting for my scan results and a date for surgery, but the worst thing for me at the moment is trying to sleep ... my mind just won't switch off and I seem to be able to feel every little thing in my whole body .... then my mind starts working overtime, as I'm sure yours has done many times.

Thank you for the friend request ... sending you hugs x
