Secondary breast cancer in stomach

Hi

My mum had her biopsy results back today from her stomach op last week. She had breast cancer back in 2013/2014 and completed treatment in 2014 and was cancer free.

Mum began experiencing stomach issues in October and they got worse and worse. She had several tests and they found inflamed lymph nodes and inflammation.

They biopsied a swollen node on her collar bone and found it was cancerous.

She then had to have emergency surgery last Friday as her bowel was blocked. She now has a stoma fitted. The Dr's said they were sure it was cancerous and sadly, this evening it was confirmed.

I'm making a complaint about the Dr who confirmed it as she was very harsh about it and told my mum there was quite a lot of cancer in her stomach and its chemo or nothing. Who says that!!!! My poor mum is still in hospital at the moment because of having her stoma and she was devastated. I went to the hospital to see her and hug her and reassure her that I'm sure chemo will help.

Does anyone else have experience of bc going to the stomach? From what I understand, it's quite rare xxx

  • Some doctors do have a bad bedside manner so to speak, but you haven't really stated if this was the case, or if it was just the fact the reality was put to your mum.

If an adult is deemed to have their full mental faculties about them, then doctors are obliged to tell them the truth. Sometimes those truths are brutal for all concerned.

Sorry to hear about your mother. Hopefully she is given chemo and she responds well.

  • Hi

The Dr was just being harsh and uncaring. She is not a cancer specialist and was literally only giving the biopsy results because my mum had asked to be told them when they were through.

All the other staff agreed she didn't need to be like that and it's not for her to say anything regarding treatment
