I am so sorry to hear about your brother's recent diagnosis. It's a shame that they will not be able to operate as the cancer has spread outside of the oesophagus but I hope that the chemotherapy treatment works well for him. There is information on our website on this page on advanced oesophageal cancer which includes a section on treatment for advanced cancer. You could perhaps ask your brother's medical team why a combined treatment is not an option and I am sure they will be happy to explain this to you. As they have full knowledge of the details of your brother's cancer, they will be best qualified to explain their treatment choices. I hope that you will also meet other members of the forum who have had a similar diagnosis and that they will share their stories with you.

Thank you for your reply. Really appreciated. 

Awaiting call for an appointment with the oncologist. Will call them on Monday if still not heard anything. 

On a slightly different note, has anyone any advice or have they tried themselves over the counter medicines. 

I have read about Jane McLelland and her fight with various cancers. Just bought her book. How to starve Cancer.. Plus also reading about a Mr Joe Tippens who' said he beat his cancer using a cocktail of over the counter meditations. 

Interesting reading and very encouraging. Anyone out there tried any of these self treatments ??
