Hormone treatment for breast cancer

Hello, I'm coming to the end of my chemotherapy last session next week, this will be followed up by 5 sessions of radiotherapy and also starting hormone treatment for 5-10 years. I have been offered tamoxifen or another 1 which iv forgotton the name of but along side it I would need to inject my self monthly to suppress my ovaries.  I'm wondering how everyone has bern on these treatments. ? I'd rather not have any to be honest but iv no choice. I'm feeling a little confused as to which to go for.

  • Hi,

I two Docetaxil left, then Radio, I'm also wondering about Tamoxifen as I need this also.

be interesting to see what peoples thoughts are x

  • Hiya, how did u get on with your 1st dosetaxel? Have u been OK,,?x

  • Hi Keeley,

only had my first Docetaxil on Thursday so hard too say. I really struggled with FEC the Nausea and my whole digestive system were hurrendous. Not feeling so sick but days. May I ask your age? I'm 38 and had my family. My consultant has suggested having my ovaries removed rather than the month injections, my cancer was oestrogen Fed so that's why, tamoxifen aswel, same as you.

Seems like such a long journey. Any Docetaxil tips?

    thanks Sarah

  • Hi,

I've had chemo, surgery, radiotherapy, immunotherapy and now I'm having endocrine therapy.

I have tamoxifen daily for ten years and Zoladex injections every four weeks for ten years..I'm only 33 so very much pre menopause.

So tamoxifen I find much easier than chemo. I have some side effect including hot flushes (particularly at night) and some joint pain. But your oncologist should work with you to combat flushes somewhat.

From what I've researched hormone therapy is significant in regards to me avoiding a recurrence. Have you looked at predict breast cancer ?

It shows how much on average your treatments will help.

    Any questions I'm here

    Phili xx

  • Hi Phili, iv not heard of the predicted breast cancer, can I just ask for it?  It's good to know your coping well with tamoxifen how long have you been taking it? I'm really confused as to which treatment to go with I also need it for 10 years. They have asked if I want to suppress my ovaries along side another hormone treatment(iv forgotten the name of it) but then I would be in effect forcing myself into menopause which I wonder is it worth doing oor letting it happen naturally? I'm really confused xx
