HPV, severe high grade Dyskaryosis

Since I received my letter about 4 weeks ago now to say that my smear test had detected HPV and that I had severe high grade Dyskaryosis, I have been worried sick   I was given an appointment for a colposcopy which included the lletz at the same time for 16th February.  I attended the appointment (extremely nervous) and on examination they advised they were not able to do the procedure and that I have to have it done under general anesthetic as it was too much of a risk for me.  Here I am now with less than 48hrs before my appointment, very nervous about it all.  Even though the consultant told me that it takes years for abnormal cells to become cancerous I still can not think of anything else...  If it takes years to develop then why are the appointments booked extremely quickly? Also how can it go from normal smear straight to high grade severe within a short amount if time if it takes years to develop?

  • Hi DonnaA and welcome to the forum.

I'm so sorry no-one was able to get back to you before your appointment today but I hope your procedure goes well and you have a speedy recovery.

I see you have some questions about your screening results so I just thought I'd give you our cancer nurses telephone number as they're very knowledgeable in this area and will be able to help so if you'd like to discuss this in more detail, they're available on 0808 800 4040, Monday - Friday between 9a.m - 5p.m

    Kind regards,
