60mm polyps

Hi everyone,

I have had my third colonoscopy and they could not remove the polyps safely as some could not be seen so an operation looks on the cards.

I was left a whole year until they came up with this plan when my polupyp was just 2.5 cm

this last time I bled a lot as they tried to remove it and soon after I was ushered into a room where the guy who tried the procedure came in and said, it looks malignant and you need an op. Also a scan because it could have gone to liver, lymph nodes brain so we will take bloods too. Then he left. I was devastated . I tried to pick up my husband who had gone to pieces then my mum before I could digest anything.

he took no biopsies but said it was malignant.

I was then told that messing with it could have made it worse

im very stressed and trying to support the whole family as well as cope myself. It's been a terrible time for us , losing dad to covid, house break in etc but we coped I'm not sure I can with this.

can a doctor really know if it's malignant or not?
thanks for listening

  • Hello disneyqueen,

Poor you it sounds like you had the most horrific experience and that you were left feeling rather anxious after being told this in a rather insensitive manner. I am no medical expert myself but I would think you will only know for sure that it is malignant or not once you have had the biopsy results and after they have looked at these polyps more closely. A doctor can obviously have an idea as to whether it looks potentially malignant but they will only know for definite once all the scan and test results have come through. It's very strange too that you were told that messing with it could have made it worse - I am really not sure what he meant by this but if I were you I would ask to speak to someone else and seek a second opinion if you can. It would be good for you to get to talk to someone who takes the time to explain things to you in a calm and sensitive manner and gives you a chance to ask questions so that you know exactly what to expect from this operation.

I am so sorry you lost your dad to covid too and have been through all this recently. It must be really hard to cope at the moment especially while you are still dealing with so much uncertainty and I am keeping everything crossed for you that it all turns out to be reassuring news. The wait for answers can feel like a lifetime and many of our members will have been in a similar position so I hope they will be along shortly to share their story with you. There are useful tips on this page on how to cope while waiting for important news.

Keep us updated if you get a chance on what you find out. I hope the operation goes smoothly and that you won't have to wait too long for it.

    Best wishes,
