Melanoma Stage 1a

Hi all I recently was diagonosed with melanoma stage 1a and have had a WIE last week on the area on my upper thigh, i also had another mole removed on my back to go off to be tested so I have another anxious wait!!

Feeling very sore and uncomfortable but happy both have been removed, as a very active person who runs and competes in OCR races obviously my training regime is on hold, i have my stitches due to be removed in another week and was just wondering if there is anyone out there who has a similiar fitness background who can give me an insight on when they started getting back into their training routine, i know that i am going to have to take it slow and steady and wait to see what my results are from my 2nd mole removal.

I also had a check on my lymph nodes examined but there was no mention of any further tests on them, is this something that you can request being done?

  • Hello Steph and welcome to the Cancer Chat.

I've had a quick look through the forum and whilst I couldn't find anyone who has mentioned they take part in OCR races, I did come across a discussion from last year where a member was trying to find out how long they would have to wait until they could get back to pilates/physio.

Their mole was in a different location to yours but as you'll see, they received some good advice from one of our regular and very well informed melanoma members, [@AngieT]‍. I've tagged her in this post so hopefully when she is free she will pop by to offer you her thoughts and advice.

We do have a team of cancer nurses you can discuss this with on 0808 800 4040, Monday - Friday between 9a.m - 5p.m but it may also be worth popping over to Melanoma UK for further information and advice.

I hope the removal of your stitches goes well and that the second mole that was removed isn't cancerous.

    Kind regards,

    Steph, Cancer Chat Moderator

  • Thank you Steph for looking into that for me. I am 1 week and 1 day after my WLE and returning to work tomorrow, still not heard anything from my second mole removal so I am hoping no news is good news! Also had my first appointment date in 3 months time.

After looking at other discussions is the Lymph node testing not something that is done in my case? I did have an appointment at the doctors about a year ago where my glands in my groin were swollen but with no pain, I had blood tests done but nothing else was found, the Doctor put it down to me being lean. I did have glandular fever as a teen and have always been quite glandular and lumpy and bumpy!! I did mention this when i was first diagonosed but my consultant seemed happy enough to examine them and then book me in for my WLE.

Had a look at [@AngieT]‍ and hopefully we can have a chat soon and she can share some of her words of wisdom with me, she seems a very inspirational lady as this is a scary time.
