Hi got my results back today I have been diagnosed with invasive lobular breast cancer. I have to have MRI scan to find out the size . Anyone else had to do this .
I am waiting for a scan, have had a terrible five weeks with an operation that was said to be for a papilloma (a duct removed without margins which had been the original plan, except around the thing said to be a papilloma). But turns out to be no papilloma at all and all cancer. Okay hat kind is something that the hospital are being very cadgy about and described as "nothing to worry about ductal and a little bit of invasive" and when queried said to be papillary carcinoma in situ (rare) and also invasive lobular cancer but they still say only affecting one area but also that they can't say more to me until after the MRI
its very scary as my GP tells me they are looking at mastectomy and lymph renoval but they haven't said that to me and so I am hoping the MRI is done and looked a lot more carefully than the ultrasound and also that they do both breast a and check the lymph nodes.
so far the hospital seem to have a real mess of the testing as all imaging said to be normal and we have lost some weeks already and longer to wait for the MRI
I hope yours is quick and new and wish you lots of luck with it
Hi sounds like you have had a bad time .hopefully it will all be sorted soon . Thank you for replying. X
Hi I was diagnosed with ILC in November and had MRI with contrast. Mammogram showed only cluster of calcification and no tumour as someone else has explained cells don't form as lump so couldn't be seen. Results came back as 7cm tumour and now booked for ultrasound and CT.
Hi thanks for your reply. Why you having a CT and have doctors informed you of what they doing .
Hi,
I was diagnosed with lobular breast cancer in 2019. It's renown for not showing up on a mammogram and even ultrasound scans don't get the full view, that is why you will be going for an MRI scan. There is a fantastic Facebook page for people with lobular breast cancer. www.facebook.com/.../ All the members have/had lobular breast cancer.
They told me that my tumour was 19mm from the ultrasound. MRI showed it was 35mm.

Thank you for your reply, can I ask you what treatment you received.
I had surgery - which was a latissimus dorsi flap procedure, this is where an oval flap of skin, fat, muscle, and blood vessels from your upper back is used to reconstruct the breast. This flap is moved under your skin around to your chest to rebuild your boob. Most lobular breast cancers result in a mastectomy but my hospital had a surgeon who specialist in this surgery. I had an oncotype test done on my tumour which came back with a score of 16 so didn't need chemo. My surgeon told me lobular cancer doesn't really respond well to chemo. I then had 15 sessions of radiotherapy and am now on tamoxifen xx
Thank you for the quick response. Can I ask you what the size of the lump was ,?
The MRI showed it to be 35mm
