MRI scan after melanoma biopsy

I had a mole (and satellite moles) removed by a plastic surgeon on 17 December.

I haven't had the biopsy results yet but today I received a call booking me in for an MRI.

this suggests to me that it is melanoma.

I was just wondering if an MRI scan signals a late stage of melanoma? Is it deep? Shouldn't I have a lymph node biopsy first?

I am so sick with worry. I'm 29 x

  • Hello Slee141

I'm sorry to hear that you've had an appointment for further tests without the results being given to you yet. It's totally understandable that this has left you feeling anxious about things.

I'd suggest giving the Consultant secretary a call this week. Let them know that you've been booked for an MRI but you've had no results and that consequently you're feeling very worried about things and would like someone to call you to discuss what is actually going on. Hopefully, a clinician will be able to give you a call or make an appointment for you to be seen in the clinic to give you an update and some reassurance. If you're not able to get any help that way then do contact the hospital PALS department for further support in getting answers.

If you want to chat to one of our nurses about your concerns you're most welcome to call them on 0808 800 4040, Monday to Friday 9 am to 5 pm.

Keep in touch and let us know how you get on.

    Best wishes,
