Hi i am due to start chemo very soon i find my treatment plan out and dates on Thursday...i am wanting a cold cap on while i have my chemo done (supposed to keep some of your hair) been been told depends on the drugs you are on also not all hospitals do it i really hope i can i am also going to buy a good quality wig to wear and being honest i don't have the confidence to walk around bald xxx

Mines due to start next week. I'm unsure about the cold cap but if it's an option I'm going to give it a try. 

I'm keeping all my options open and trying to set it all in place before I start

I've ordered my wig. Hopefully we ve got it as close to my actual hair as possible. The idea is to try and keep stuff as normal as possible for the grandchildren.

I also ordered to soft jersey caps as it's not advisable to keep the wig on all the time 

The MC millan booklet coping with hair loss is very helpful as a quick reference point.

A friend who has permanent hair loss and wears wigs all the time gave me this  tip. She's says to wash and condition them with hair extension products. Much cheaper than the specialist stuff.

My wife just got some non nylon ones from Amazon. She didn't want the nylon ones because she couldn't get past them looking like cut down tights. lol. Plus cotton is just better all round on skin.

She was doing the cold cap too, and her hair still began to thin a lot. So she shaved it, but kept her fringe. So when the wig is on, you can't really tell at all because it blends in with her fringe.

Thanks for your reply ️ and tips i am going to purchase a wig just for the days i need confidence to step out in public ....i need to get more info on cancer and what comes with it i feel lost at the moment as treatment not started and everything seems totally out of my comfort zone but after my treatment plan on Thursday going to get myself sorted and do everything possible to get through this blip in life ...i need to see both my daughters get married and see the next generation born .

If you do find yourself needing to wear a wig, make sure to use a hat if it's windy. The first time My wife went out, it nearly blew off.  When she got home, the wig was all sorts of wrong.

She found a cap on the wig is fine for short jaunts, like if she just nips out to post a letter or something, but she prefers wearing a hat on the wig if she's gonna be out longer than 5 mins as she doesn't really like caps. Weirdly, she really suits caps. Thought i'd never see the day she wore a cap, but women can pull it off.

Another tip she would give you, kinda get your eyebrows marked so you can easily stencil them to the shape you had before treatment. She never and regrets it. No idea what she meant by marking them, but I think she said some place can outline them. Can they? Me, i have no idea.

I am going to get a cheaper wig similar length to my own and with it being winter wear a knitted pom pom hat over the top then at least looks realistic then when warmer weather comes an expensive realistic wig without a hat...seems strange a month ago a wig was never in my thoughts but that is life, many thanks for the eyebrow tips x 

My wife prefers the cheaper wigs.  As do all the women she has spoken to at chemo thus far. A lot less maintenance. She looked at real hair wigs and the likes, but the thing about those, you have to care for them as you do with your own natural hair. Like wash them as and when you would with your real hair, and have to style them daily as you do with your own hair. They're basically like having real hair with everything they entail.

The cheaper wigs keep their shape no matter what. They might need a brush through them now and then, but that's it. Also gotta keep them away from hot ovens and stoves.
