Invasive grade 3 triple negative breast cancer

Hi,

I have recently been diagnosed with invasive grade 3 triple negative breast cancer.

I'm so scared and really worried about starting chemo.

I researched some info online and now wish I didn't as it's made me even more worried.

I have an MRI in 5 days and then start chemo -  once every 3 weeks, the week after.

It's such an emotional rollercoaster and Im trying to remain positive, but it's definitely an uphill battle trying to have a positive mindset.

  • Hello,

    Seasons Greetings

How are you doing? I too was diagnosed with Grade 3 invasive ductal carcinoma, triple negative right breast cancer, on 1st Dec. I get my results on 14th Jan, where I will find out my stage and treatment plan.

Since my diagnosis, I have took one step forwards and two steps backwards, (many times) so I also struggled to remain positive, but thank heavens I had the distraction of the Christmas preparations to take away worries and fears.

With Christmas now gone, I only have the lovely positive ladies who are going/have been through the very same crisis we are anxious about. These ladies gave me strength and hope to carry on. In between waiting for my upcoming appointments, I found the posts were helpful and gave some comfort with some of my queries, which would have any other time have me calling my BCN constantly!

I understand for some individuals, only health professionals will ease their minds, and no amount of reassurance outside of this will convince them otherwise.

I believe we are at the same situation with regards to diagnosis and treatment plan, but it sounds like you will get there before me, so maybe we can address the uphill battle you mentioned and perhaps you can let me know what I may come across and keep me in the loop with your journey?

    Much love xx

  • Hello

I have just today been diagnosed with grade 3 invasive ductal carcinoma, triple negative.

The doctor is saying lumpectomy and biopsy then radiotherapy. May be able to avoid chemo but the cancer nurse said it is likely.

Due to give birth and likely to have a c section next week to get things moving.

can anyone recommend any type of counselling that is useful. I have a feeling I'm going to need it!

Also, how did you go about telling friends and family? Did you tell a select few or everyone. Still processing so not told family yet but have told a few friends as I find it easier.

  • Hi hun I replied on your other feed aswel but i was referred for counciling by my Consultant, ask him/her next time you speak with them to refer you.

Breast Cancer Now website is a good source of information aswel

  • Hi Anon,

    Hope you are fine.

I'm glad things are moving along fairly quickly for you, and it's brilliant. I'm sorry I can't let you know what the next step might entail, because I still haven't had my treatment plan as yet. Hopefully I will hear of this on Friday.

Like you I only told a few friends, I've decided to tell family a bit later when I'm armed with some knowledge as to what is/not happening next. This forum is a great platform to be a part of, and I'm sure someone will reply to the counselling you're asking about.

Take care my lovely (when is baby due?)

    Much love xx

  • I will thank you! It's nice being able to talk about it with people on this forum which has helped x

  • I'm due on 25th and likely to have c section next week so treatment can start abit earlier. They are not keen on induction due to complications with birth of my first son which also led to a c-section.

Good luck with your treatment plan tomorrow. Hope it all goes well.

Consultant called me and is now saying chemo first due to calcifications in breast which could also be cancer. Surgery will be after. X

  • Hey Anon,

How's you and baby doing, not too bad I hope?

My 14th Jan app wasn't what I thought it would be. I was told the results of a 2nd biopsy was fatty tissue and it was nothing thing to worry about, but an MRI was ordered (not sure why). He also said the MDT decided the best way forward for me was to have chemo first, surgery, then radiotherapy. They gave me 25th Jan to go to Oncology where I will consent to chemo and have a chat about hair loss, fatigue, nausea and any other questions I may have.

I wonder if this is this my treatment plan? I thought I would get dates of chemo/surgery and the type I would be having.

I expected the date for the MRI to be at least 2-3 wks away, but I got a short notice cancellation to come in yesterday. The radiologist said the results shouldn't take too long. So it's back to restless nights worrying what these results will reveal.

  • Hi Vee

Baby boy born today by c section. In hospital overnight and being treated very well. Even managed to get my own room! So this cancer thing has a few perks.

Great news on the second biopsy. I think they do an MRI so they get an overall picture of what is going on and what they need to treat. They have to stop my milk for me to Have the MRI which is sad as really wanted to breastfeed longer than a week.

From what I have read chemo is normal for triple negative as is radiotherapy and surgery. The triple whammy to make sure it doesn't come back as there is no option of hormone therapy.

My consultant said they wanted to do chemo first to kill as much of the cancer as possible so they know which op to do, either lumpectomy or mastectomy as sometimes the cancer has been killed off my chemo prior to surgery.

I hope this helps. I am dreading having to wait for the MRI results too and I haven't even had the scan yet.

Good luck for your appointment and ask lots of ques.

I have bought some books from Amazon about the cancer/treatment journey to give be a better insight.

  • Hello Kat

Just wanted to pop on and say a big congratulations on the safe arrival of your little baby boy earlier today. I hope that you're able to enjoy lots of time together over the next few days before your MRI.

    Best wishes,

  • Hey Kat,

Awww congratulations on the birth of your baby. If I were a drinker, I'd have raised a glass of gin n tonic to 'wet his head' by now but as I'm not, a glass of squash will have to suffice. Lol. What will you name him?

How are you doing, how long will you be in hospital for and what happens now, re treatment? Do you have to heal first (before they resume your cancer care) so it doesn't get delayed too much? As for the MRI (I've never had one until yesterday), I had to lay on my stomach completely still for the radiologist to get images for at least 30 minutes. You won't be able to do that, so it's out of the question for you right now.

When you said ask lots of questions, somehow I don't think you meant you! Lol.

    Take care Kat,

Big hugs and much love to both

    Vee xx
