Told I had DCIS but now have Invasive Ductal Carcinoma

I was diagnosed with 3cm of high grade DCIS and had a lumpectomy. I had my pathology report today and have been told they found 2mm of invasive ductal carcinoma. This wasn't expected and I now need a sentinel node biospy to see if it's spread. I had got my head round DCIS but invasive is a whole new level of adjustment

  • Morning,

Really sorry to meet you here under these circumstances.  I'm really sorry that you've had this shock yesterday. Was the IDC in addition to the 3cm DCIS?

Have you been given a date for the LNB?

I had my surgery last week and have been told four weeks for histology (including LNB) results (Christmas delays). I'm really sorry that no-one prepared you for the fact that they can find other things in surgery/histology sometimes and so I understand your shock and horror.  I was always told that they could find more in surgery than expected or histology could upgrade etc and so I've accepted that my treatment plan may well change again post surgery. I'm sorry you didn't have the option to get your head around that possibility.

Sending you virtual hugs and positivity - Mickey xx ️
