Invasive ductile breast cancer diagnosis

Just got back from results appointment and I have been diagnosed with invasive ductile breast cancer. Grade 2 T1 and PR 3 ER 0 HER 2 0 I think that's right. Everything is a bit of a blur. Got surgery 19th January and then decision if I need chemo or not. Anyone else had this diagnosis? Really appreciate any advice and reassurance and helpful tips on getting through this and coming out the other side.

thanks

  • Hi hun,

I am a bit further down the road to you so could help, I'm 38 so was a real shock.

I have since had a lumpectomy and start Chemo after Christmas. I was diagnosed with invasive Ductal Carcinoma, Stage1 Grade3 19mm Her2- ER+ Clear Margin Lymph node negative

I had a lumpectomy first, they did a lymph node biopsy at the same time which were ok, I had two surgeries as the margin wasn't clear the first time, originally it was a grade 2 but after surgery a grade 3 as they had more to test, so that is why I need chemo, mine is Oestrogen fed so will need to be on Tamoxifen for 5 years and an injection to stop my ovaries from working.  I will have radiotherapy after chemo.

You will absolutely get through it and be fine and live the best life! This is just a bump in the road. You will have a breast care nurse, I found her a great help to go through things and help me rationalise everything, don't be afraid to ask questions I asked lots.

If you can make friends on here with another couple of girls at simular timing as you that will really help.

i hope I have helped. Happy to answer anything if I can.

    thinking of you xx

  • Hi Snowdrop, my diagnosis exactly the same as yours only grade 2. Initially mine was grade one from the biopsy but changed after surgery. I am wondering why I haven't had to have chemo although I'm 56 and post menopause.

Sporting babe, you will be fine as Snowdrop said. It's very scary I know but as your treatment progresses you will feel more positive and talking to other ladies on here makes you realise you're not alone and the vast majority of women make a full recovery.

Best wishes to both of you.

    Jane xx

  • Hi Jane,

Hope your feeling okay. My Lump was sent to America for an Oncotype Dx score have they suggested that too you? I actually didn't find my score out as I was having Chemo anyway and just didn't want yet another result.

I originally was only having Radiotherapy but due too the Grade3 I have too have Chemo. I might try the cold cap as I have really long blonde hair, I know I sound vain but  I absolutely love it.

    Much love x

  • Hi Snowdrop,

I've just completed radiotherapy and this has been the hardest bit although it was done and dusted in 5 days. A bit sore and very tired now but back at work.

No one has mentioned onco score but I'll ask about that when I have follow up with oncologist. It must be the grade that determines whether you have chemo.

Not vain at all, if you can keep your hair by using cold cap I'd do the same. It's great that we can feel empowered to make at least some decisions on this journey. I'm debating whether to take the oestrogen blockers as I already have osteo arthritis and don't want to make it worse.

    Best wishes

    Jane xx

  • I am pleased you are through your treatment. I think then it's only Sent away if a grade 3 that would explain why when it was initially a grade 2 Radiotherapy was only talked about.

Roll on May when I should be finished both Chemo and Radiotherapy

  • Hi Snowdrop,

It sounds like I'm very similar to you, grade 3 invasive + high grade  dcis, although I'm triple negative, had my lumpectomy & snb on the 11 th nov, chemo after Christmas 7 th jan.

how are you feeling after your surgery, I had an infection had antibiotics, which cleared it but boob still quite sore.

    best wishes

  • Hi Sarah,

Nice too chat to you! I had high grade DCIS also around my Tumor, I needed too Surgeries to clear the Margin.

i was okay afterwards it was my Arm pit that was the real problem, it still hurts now actually and is still numb in my arm pit.

i am still waiting for a Chemo date, I had my Booster and Flu job yesterday. Not sure if I will cold cap or not, I want too to protect the children but haven't decided yet.

Are you ok about Chemo? It's not quite sunk in yet xx

  • Hi snowdrop,

my arm pits not so bad, it's more where they took the tumour out still feels squishy!
oh gosh that's not so good they had to go back in with you, I was dreading them telling me that but they got it all first go thankfully.

I hope they don't leave you too long without a date for chemo, I find all the waiting for different things is torture.  I kind of knew chemo would be on the cards with it being triple negative still a shock though when they tell you.

I had a video appointment with the oncologist and have a pre assessment appointment next Tuesday,  I'm left alone then until after Christmas thankfully.  29th picc line going in ready.

Booster on Monday,  blooming heck they keep you busy.

have you got your head around having chemo?

    xx

  • Hi Snowdrop,

Hope you are ok. I have been reading your posts and find my diagnosis is somewhat similar to yours, as well as some of the ladies on here.

I have Invasive ductal carcinoma Grade 3 (aggressive). When I had the results, I was told there was another lump which they didn't what it was, so I have to have another biopsy (22ndDec). My surgeon says until the results come through, they won't be able to tell me its stage or what treatment is best to deal with it. Results on 14th Jan.

After reading your post, where you mentioned your grade changed after surgery. I am now wondering if my grade will change also. It's already a grade 3, so grade 4 ( if it changes) doesn't look bright.

Although my BCN nurse tells me all will be fine, and I do believe her, I can't help getting anxious, and now I just want any kind of treatment that will start to diminish this aggressive lump.

    Much love

  • Hi,

Of course I can help if I can.

You probably know this but Breast Cancer is Staged 1-4, Stage 1 being the most early Stage. Grades are 1-3 only, there is not a Grade 4,.

Your Grade will stay at 3. Don't get to bogged down with the word aggressive this word doesn't mean to you and i what it means to the Doctors, Grade 3 just means that under the telescope the Cells look very different to normal Cells and grow at a faster rate.

Don't mistake Stages and Grades they are completely different ( I made that mistake ) Did they give you any indication of size etc from your Scan and whether your lymph nodes looked ok. I was stage 1 because my Tumor was under 2cm and node negative.lots of ladies are Grade3. You will feel better once you have all the info but the waiting is hurrendous

    Best wishes Sarah
