Ileostomy reversal

Thought i would update with my latest about my ileostomy  reversal. After a very traumatic 17 days in hospital starting with the reversal, then the next day another op to dilate the original  cancer site as faeces  was not getting through, then colon goes into colitis followed by small bowel going into ileus, then getting c diff and being isolated, and lastly the mother of all anul  fissure.  Nill by mouth for 17 days and drip not working properly  for 6 hrs meant I got very dehydrated and had a nightmare of a thirst and had a feeling of impending  doom which concerned  the nurses who let me have some crushed ice which was the best thing I have ever had in my life it was a real life saver. I eventually  got home after the c diff calmed down but that is were the recovery  really started I will make it short but it has taken 6 maths for my colon and sphincter muscles to reme what to do ,I have gone from sleeping on the bathroom floor for two wks and going to the loo 40 times a day, to going back to work and I am currently  going about 8 times a day it is amazing  how your body recovers given time. I hope this helps anybody  going through  the same thing.

  • Hello Ady,

Thank you so much for sharing your experience. Hearing your story will be so helpful to others who are about to have an ileostomy reversal. It sounds like the first 17 days were truly traumatic for you but I am glad you overcame this initial ordeal and that your recovery is going in the right direction. Poor you it must have been really tough sleeping on the bathroom floor but how amazing that you have now gone back to work and everything. Your story will truly be inspirational for anyone going through the same thing.

I hope you keep doing so well and that you make a full recovery and your life gets completely back to normal!
