Dogs ear information

I have a "dogs ear" following my mastectomy in November last year 2020. I am wanting to start discovering what my options are when I have my follow up appointment in December. I find it uncomfortable and it almost feels like an insult. I have no problem with my missing breast and scar from day 1. But to have like a small breast under my arm upsets me. My arm will no longer hang naturally close to my body. I would be interested in hearing how others feel and what they have done. Thankyou.

  • Hello Cwgirl

I'm sorry to hear that you were left with a dog ear following your mastectomy last year. They can be very uncomfortable and upsetting.

I've had a look on the forum and I can't see that anyone else has posted about a dog ear so I'm going to suggest that you have a look at an organisation called Flat Friends where I know that you will find other women to connect with who have experience of this and some who will have had further surgery to rectify the problem. You might want to drop the admin team an email and they will be able to point you in the right direction to chat with other ladies.

You're also most welcome to give our team of nurses a call to talk things through with them. I'm sure they will be happy to offer any advice and information that they can ahead of your appointment in December. If you'd like to speak with them they're available Monday to Friday 9 am to 5 pm on 0808 800 4040.

I do hope that you're able to get this sorted.

    Best wishes,
