Mastectomy swimsuit and dry hair

Hi everyone!

I am hoping to get some advice on two topics.

First of all, my mum, who had breast cancer and a full mastectomy, decided that she'd like to go to a swimming pool which is absolutely great news! Can anyone please recommend where I can look for a good supportive swimsuit suitable for someone who didn't have reconstruction?

Secondly, she recently told me that her hair has grown back extremely dry after chemo and radiotherapy. She tried to use some hair masks but then noticed that one of them contained Vitamin B and apparently she said that she was told to avoid vitamin B due to cancer. Did anyone have the same problem (dry hair)? Are there any ways to fix it in a safe way? Any advice would be very much appreciated :)

Many thanks,

Anna

  • Hey Anna, I only have advice for the hair I'm afraid and from an ex hairdressers view as my hair is just starting to come back although I haven't finished my chemo yet. Is her hair coarse? Aussie hair masks are great although I haven't ever read the ingredients, why is she avoiding vitamin b? Oils are great for coarse hair after chemo more so then serums coconut oil it great  I used to use it on my long hair

  • Hi Lizzy!

Thank you so much for your advice! Yes, her hair is quite coarse... I'll make sure to buy her some coconut oil and the Aussie hair mask!

    Thanks again!

  • your very welcome i hope it works! let me know. My scalp is quite dry in patches mainly over the top of my head it feels a little scaly almost but doesnt look it. my hair is just starting to come back but is baby hair like so very soft does your mum have any tips on how to soften it and also anything that i can do to speed up my hair growth please ive googled like mad but find personal experience is more likely to work. i am longing for my hair to be back ! xx

  • I asked her and she said that she didn't use anything to help the hair growth, just did a very light head massage, so may be try that? I remember she said that her hair was growing all in different directions and looked weird at first, but don't get discouraged, I think after her first hair cut it started getting more or less back to normal :) also, I actually thought that my mum looked really cool with short hair! So it might only be a couple of month and then you can have a nice edgy haircut ;)

  • I hope so! It looks like it's coming back grey too either that or blonde but im a red head naturally but it's defo not ginger! X
