Tamoxifen

I've been taking Tamoxifen for just over 5 years. I had a Lumpectomy, radiotherapy . It was grade 2 and not in my lymph nodes. About 18 months ago I was diagnosed with Sacroiliitis . Since then the pain has become progressively worse. I recently read an article which indicated that it is possible that my Sacroiliitis can be related to taking Tamoxifen. I know that in the last 10 years there had been a move from the need to take it Tamoxifen for 10 years rather than 5, I was advised to take it for 10. Im looking for advise on whether  or not there is a significant risk in stopping Tamoxifen to improve my quality of life. My Sacroiliitis means I am in constant pain and finding day to day activities difficult.

many thanks

    Hi Ashleyr,

A very warm welcome to our forum. The side-effects from Tamoxifen can be pretty daunting for many. Some peope find it helpful to stick to a particular brand of this medication , or to take it at night time instead of the morning.

Ifyou really can't cope don't just stop. Have a word with your oncologist and ask how much taking this drugs can prevent recurrence. There are other drugs which can be prescribed that may not have the same side-effects.

I hope that you manage to find a suitable solution. Please keep in touch and let us know how you get on. We are always here for you.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx
