Removing healthy breast after mastectomy

It is 5 years since my mastectomy and I have had several false alarms in my healthy breast that has caused me constant anxiety. I am convinced now that a mastectomy of the healthy one is the best option for me. I am also lopsided as quite big in remaining breast and sick of wearing prosthesis which can be so hot and uncomfortable. Does anyone on the forum have any experience of removal of healthy breast?  I plan to speak to my team next week - would I have to go private?

thank you.

  • Hello AmeliaW and welcome to the Cancer Chat forum.

Hopefully some of our members who have had this surgery will share their experiences and advice with you soon but if you'd like to talk things through with one of our cancer nurses before you speak with your team about this next week, do give them a call on 0808 800 4040, Monday - Friday between 9a.m - 5p.m.

The charity Breast Cancer Now may be able to help as well.

Wishing you all the best for next week Amelia.

    Kind regards,

    Steph, Cancer Chat Moderator
