Partner has testicular cancer

Hi,

I am seeking advice as my partner recently my partner was diagnosed with testicular cancer. He had an orchidectomy (one testicle) around a month ago and since then the oncologist has said they're sure they've removed the cancer but he suggested one round of chemotherapy to prevent it returning. I found this to be positive and i was very relieved there was no further implications.

He has always had hypochondria and mental health problems and this hasn't helped. He keeps on declaring he has cancer and is really worried about the chemotherapy and the thought of the cancer coming back. I'm not sure he technically has cancer? I can't seem to seem to say the right thing.

Does anyone have any suggestions on a place he could go for mental health support?

Thanks

I'm sorry to hear about your husband's recent diagnosis and that he's really struggling with things at the moment. It's not an uncommon reaction following a cancer diagnosis.

You don' mention if he has ever spoken with his GP about his mental health and if not then I'd encourage him to chat with his GP.

You may also want to get in touch with your local Maggie's centre. They are able to offer counselling and psychological support to those impacted by cancer and many Maggie's centres also run men's groups which may be something he would find helpful. there is also an organisation called Testicular Cancer UK and it may be that he finds some of their support groups helpful.

You're also very welcome to give our team of nurses a call for some advice and support if you'd like to chat with them. They're available Monday to Friday 9 am to 5 pm on 0880 800 4040.

I hope this helps and wish you both well for the rest of his treatment.

    Best wishes,
