Life after reversal

I have had my ileostomy  reversed much to my regret as I wanted to keep it as my life was perfect with it. But it stopped  working at Christmas  and after many visits  to a and e the consultants basically  said I had to get it done quickly. I had the op on a Sunday  it went okay for a couple of days then I developed  colitis then they did another op to dilate the original  anastomosis as it was narrow one end, I then went into ileus for 5 days and had the horrible  ng tube put in,then to top it of I got c diff and was basically  having watery diaroea constantly for 48 hrs,I then developed  a anul fisure which is the most painful  thing I have ever encountered so basically everything  went wrong and I now have to wait months and months for things to improve. I can't see the fisure improving  as it is constantly  underpress from my bowel movements. All of my life is on hold no work no cycling  long distance as I need sitz bath after each motion so as you can see I why i am pretty  *** of but hey ho all of these things are better than dying from the original problem, I don't like mentioning the c word.

  • I'm very sorry for everything that's happened since you had your ileostomy reversed Ady. It sounds like it's been very tough and must be very frustrating but I really do hope things start to turn a corner and those little improvements that make this situation a tad more manageable start to appear for you soon.

We have had a few posts on the forum recently about ileostomy reversals so if you'd like to have a read just use the 'search forum' option in the purple bar above.

Our cancer nurses are on hand if you'd like to talk this through with them as well. They're available on 0808 800 4040, Monday - Friday between 9a.m - 5p.m.
