Adenoid cystic carcinoma

I am 5 years post surgical removal of my tumour. I am due to be disharged from the hospital team. My cancer is a slow growing variety which can redevelop in the lungs. I have no symptoms currently but if I have small secondary tumours I won't have any respiratory problems until they are bigger. Should I push to have a scan before I am discharged as it is the only way I can know I am cancer free or wait until symptoms develop in which case the tumour/s would already be well developed. I favour the scan but is it reasonable to push for a scan when I am looking to prove a negative? Particularly when there are so many problems in hospitals due to Covid?

  • Hello Bluesally

I can understand why you'd like to discuss having a scan prior to discharge from your Consultant. It would be good to have that reassurance.

I'd suggest giving our team of nurses a call to chat things through with them ahead of your appointment. I'm sure they will be able to give you some support and information that will help you to make a decision and things that you may want to discuss with your Consultant. If you'd like to chat things through with them, they're available Monday to Friday from 9 am to 5 pm on 0808 800 4040.

    Best wishes,
