First of all no cancer was found so it was reassuring but it was a horrible experience. Drinking all that moviprep the evening before and the next morning was very unpleasant and as been said before, was like weeing out of your bottom but with no control so I was having to use an old towel, sumo style to move at all. I did end up just staying on the toilet. It was still coming out when I arrived for my appointment even though I started the prep an hour earlier than instructed " in case".
As I am a widow I opted for no sedation because someone would have to stay overnight with me if I had been sedated. It all started off fine but about half way through the pain was really intense due to narrow areas in my bowel. I was offered gas and air but I don't think it worked except to make me vomit. At one stage I was constantly vomiting and in awful pain, feeling as if I was in a nightmare, half in and out of myself. The staff were wonderful but I would have to say I would never consider it without sedation ever again. I firmly hope I never have to go through it again.
I was in recovery for a while before I felt well. My BP was 186 at one stage but slowly it came back to normal and I began to feel better. I was impressed with the immediate results etc. which showed no cancer but scattered multiple diverticula.
Since my husband died, after 50 years together, plus the lockdown, life has been a challenge and no one was allowed to be with me for the procedure, so I realise that added to my experience. Sorry this is a negative comment but thank God no cancer was detected.
