Diareah blood and mucus

Hi I'm just looking for some advice as my mind is in over drive.

All of a sudden 5 weeks ago I had diarea with bright red blood. Since then I have had to do 4 stool samples. The first one came back inconclusive. 2 my came back no signs of infection ecoli etc. 3rd came back with levels of 104 so ive now had to do another which I am awaiting results for. The cramps are worse that labour pains and I've been sick quite regularly to which I have been prescribed buscipan and omeprozole for the time being. Also tiredness is really bad all I want to do is sleep. The doctor has also put in a referral to the hospital but has not explained what to expect etc. There is history of bowel cancer in my family however that was over 40 years ago. Has anyone experienced the same things at all? I'm terrified

  • Hi,

I had the same problem. I suffered with loose stools for years & then they eventually turned to liquid with few solid bits. Bled with every movement. I was going about 5 times a day. I had a giant polyp which was thankfully benign. I also was diagnosed with ibs & piles.  It could be anything so please try not to worry.

  • Thank you so much for replying. My GP called this morning to stay last week's sample count is higher than the 3rd one so she is contacting the hospital to try get me see sooner. It's just so worrying isn't it x

  • I was a mess. It's not something you can discuss with friends because they frankly don't want to. So you end up feeling like you're going through it on your own. My dr wouldn't refer me, I ended up after one particular bad instance when it looked like I only passed blood. I paid to go private. The problem with stress it affects your bowels which in turn makes the symptoms worse. I remember hating going to the loo & what I'd see would set me off into a panic. It for me was a vicious circle & it wiped me out both physically & emotionally.

I'm going through another health scare at the minute & im getting the same symptoms now minus the blood. This I know is my ibs. Stress is my trigger & not food. Every letter I get from my consultant sees me rushing to the loo.

    good luck
