First year Check up changed to phone appointment

Hi all

I am due my first year check up in March but this has been changed to a.phone appointment. I understand the reasons why but this has made me really anxious.

I had a mastectomy and 3 weeks radiotherapy and my consultant was happy that he had got all the cancer. But I still worry about it coming back and that can't be checked over the phone.

Deep down I know if they were concerned I wouldn't be delayed but I'm still stressing about it.

Anyone else in the same situation ?

  • I have only recently been diagnosed and just been informed that my melanoma has metastasised and haven't even started treatment or seen my oncologist yet. My 1st checkup was initially moved to telephone and has since been moved back three times now. Was 10/2 and is now 31/4. I spoke to my CNS and they said if I was worried about anything to contact them and they'd see me before their usual appointments. Do speak to your CNS as they're very good....or at least mine are.

  • Hi Trissie...I'm on a patient led follow up programme....they don't contact me but I can phone them if I'm concerned about anything.

I find the annual mammograms very reassuring and my third one is due now. I phoned to see if they would still be doing it and they are. My daughter has also just had her second annual mammogram.

I would voice your concerns at the phone appointment and ask for a mammogram. Peace of mind is paramount in our situation. I can't see why they would'nt do it for you.

Wishing you well....let me know how you get on.....Irene xxxx
