6 months post radical hysterectomy cervical cancer surgery

Hi, my surgery was June 2020 aged 46 following cervical cancer. I seemed at the time to manage this very well and was up and about, back to work by august. I'm now nearly 7 months on and am struggling, given HRT and have gained 1 stone in weight, bloated and struggling with my thighs when walking long distance. I'm obviously speaking to my consultant regularly and have stopped HRT (my decision) due to weight gain but am now struggling again with menopause symptoms! Anyone else struggled later on? Emma

  • I'm sorry to read of the difficulties you're experiencing at the moment Emma but hopefully your consultant will be able to help and things will start to improve once more.

I'm sure some of our members who have been on this journey will get back to you soon but if you'd like to talk things through with one of our cancer nurses then you're welcome to give them a call next week on 0808 800 4040. Their phone lines are open Monday - Friday between 9a.m - 5p.m.

    Kind regards,

  • Hi Emkate74,  aw sorry to hear you are struggling after your op and treatment. I had the same op plus radio etc and literally sailed through it. Lost over a stone after the op but it has all gone back on plus more. Before my op if I did more exercise or watched what I was eating it made a difference but nothing is working now. My hips are much bigger. I'm a completely different shape and I am also bloated. I also need to pee all the time. My consultation is not until early March , wasn't sure if this is just part and parcel of treatment as radiotherapy does "do things" to your insides and keeps working long after treatment finishes.  My groin also feels "tight" but these things gave really only been noticeable since before Christmas. Was fine before that. I do think it is just after effects.  Are you the same? x

  • Hi, I’m not 11 week past hysterectomy, got through ok and no pain, but over the last week my left hip aches when walk and when sit down is weird but left foot feels weird sometimes, anything u may have suffered so know is ok

  • Hi Mario11, how are you?  Yes, I have had various aches, tingle, pulling sensations since op and treatment. Pretty sure it's just body making adjustments while it knits back together. Any radiotherapy/brachytherapy keeps working inside the body after treatment is finished.  And funny you should say about your hip/leg as I have the very same - had it couple weeks and think must have pulled something or a nerve thing.    I remember you had a base scan recently and it was ok?   How did the CT scan go? X

  • Hi so nice u remembered my basescan xx whilst having my last brachy treatment oncologist came and said no lympthnode and clear but had found 2 shadows, so bk I went into meltdown ️ Had to hv a pet scan the following week, I figured was now in lungs, but on Tuesday he said was shadow but is over my aorta, so awaiting another call to see if another mri or just a watch it,  not sure what this all means but he said nothing lit up, my hope as only a week after brachy is that it wasn’t a false result.

Then my hip starting aching In week and leg then foot abit numb at times and I thought please no more bad news

  • Oh I know, it's hard not to worry with every little ache, twinge, ping!!! But I think to have nothing showing on your scan just a week or so ago is reassuring.  X

  • I hope u are ok aswell, seems this illness just takes over everything doesn’t it. I’m gonna mention my hip when MDT calls in week least they will be aware of it then

  • Yes, keep an eye on it and let them know. X
