Removel of implants

I had my Bilateral Mastectomy in Sept 2018 but ever since that operation I have experianced discomfort and body confidence issues with my implants, I believe I made the wrong choice in having them or at least the size of them, I find it very uncomfatable at night and often still experiance pain in them as the skin is so tight. I was discarged from the hospital in Dec 2018 and since then have not had any sort of check up either.

I'm thinking about having the implants removed altogether but I'm worried that I won't able to have this done on the NHS, it's really caused problems mentally and I cannot look at myself in the mirror still and find it very hard to show my partner and most times wear a t-shirt in bed at night.

Has anyone else had thier implants removed later after surgery ?

  • Hello Tee0206,

I'm sorry to hear about your situation and that it has caused you to feel this way. Discomfort can often occur after reconstruction and there are exercises that can help with the pain. There are also comfortable bras available and there are examples in this range here

If you haven't already, you should discuss your concerns with your surgeon or nurse. They will be able to discuss your best options with you. If you need further advice, we have a team of nurses available Monday to Friday between 9am and 5pm on the freephone 0808 800 4040. Your wellbeing is so important so I hope you look after yourself.

    All the best,
