Mastectomy prominent rib

Hey everyone, hoping someone might have an answer pls. I had a masectomy 10 months ago.... reconstruction off my leg (TUG), went ok. Nerve pain is subsiding now and almost ok.

I noticed after the swelling reduced From my chest one of my ribs above the recon breast is really prominent now. So you think it's because they take all the breast tissue, maybe they attach the new 'breast to it  or Theres a problem?
thanks z x

  • Hello zjb2

I'm glad to hear that you're recovering from your mastectomy and reconstruction. Nerve pain can take a long time to subside so it's great to hear that this is nearly resolved for you now.

From the many posts I've read over the years I think it's not unusual for women to notice different things about their body following this kind of surgery and it's entirely possible that this rib has always been a bit more prominent than the others.

However it's always sensible to get these things checked out for your own peace of mind. Maybe give your GP a call next week or your breast care nurse if you are still in touch with them. I'm sure they will be able to check things and offer you some reassurance.

    Best wishes,
