Cold cap damage to hair

I was having chemotherapy which had to be stopped in March due to COVID. The cool cap was very effective I only had a couple of patches of hair loss, however now my hair is very damaged and is breaking up to the scalp leaving my hair very short, does the cold cap cause this?

  • Welcome to the Cancer Chat community Jaqyou.

I'm really glad the cold cap was successful although I'm sorry about what's happening now.

Hopefully some of our members will share their experiences with you soon but whilst you wait I just wanted to give you our cancer nurses telephone number as they may be better placed to answer your questions about this.

    If you'd like to speak with them they're available on 0808 800 4040, Monday - Friday between 9a.m - 5p.m.

    Kind regards,

  • Hi ! I've had a similar issue, I finished all of my chemotherapy 3 months ago and radiation almost 1 month ago  and the last 6 weeks my hair has been thinning an awful lot, more than ever actually. My scalp is hurting and I am starting to get a bald patch on the top of my head.. did you ever figure out what was happening or did you find a treatment to stop your hair from falling out?!

    lots of love xx
