Breast cancer

Diagnosed with breast cancer, had a mastectomy in April, started chemo in May, have just had last chemo 3rd Sept, I asked my oncologist after my chemo has finished do I have a scan to make sure everything is okay, she said no because I had a mastectomy to take the cancer away and the chemo would mop up anything that may have been left behind, has anyone else had the same as me is this the normal outcome after treatment is finished, I feel very anxious as there is noone actually telling me those words you want to hear that everything has worked and the cancer has gone ,

If there is anyone out there that has or going through the same maybe you could give me some advice.

  • hii there thank you so much for replying , i was here reading your post i wanted to ask if you had to have medication after the chemo ?  xx

  • Hi I'm now on tamoxifen tablets for 10 years I started them 4 weeks after my last chemo session, luckily I don't seem to have had any side affects as far as I'm aware, the chemo gave me painful legs and hips which still 8-9weeks on I've still got have read the tamoxifen can cause muscle joint pain so now I don't know if it's a combination of chemo and tablets only time will tell  there different makes of tamoxifen tablets and I'd read that some of them have terrible side affects, I was given RELON CHEM I'm happy on them so have requested I have those all the time, if you are given tamoxifen then the make workhardt seem to be the worst, also I think it depends on your age if you are given tamoxifen I'm 47 and premenapausal I think if you over fifty u may be given something else.

Are you having chemo at the moment or have you finished

    Hope this has helped

  • no at the moment im not having chemo , i just have a lump and they asked me a mammogram repeated after six month to keep in observation , at the moment it has good features is benign , but of course i think a lot about it  .

i thank u so much for replying my message , was very helpful , i sometimes i have a lots of questions in my head and when i talk to my female friends none of them had a lump  in her breasts  so all the information i know is from reading a lot or from the radiologist and my doctor at my gp  :-)

  • Hi I know it's hard finding people to talk to, I would find I would forget to ask stuff wen I saw the doctors, I got Alot of information on the cancer chats, one of my friends has saved my life she was going through the same as you while I was supporting her waiting for results which did turn out good news benign she did have it removed as precaution, I decided just to check myself and oh my god there was my lump, unfortunately my results were not so good, but it was caught early ish, I truly believe she saved my life if she hadn't had been going through this I wouldn't have discovered mine

I'm glad ure lump is benign and hope it stays that way, if you have any other questions I will always try to help and answer them for you
