Stopping Tamoxifen

Hi all, im hoping someone can give me advice about stopping my Tamoxifen. I have been taking it for 10 years and stopped at the start of June. All was going well with no obvious symptoms and today i seem to have turned into the devil. I am assuming its hormone related and was hoping that someone could give me the benefit of their experience of stopping this drug and any side effects they experienced.

Thanks in advance

  • Hi there ..

I had horendious side effects when I started tamoxifen... no one warned me I'd go from strong and in control of things , to a blubbering wreck .. I managed two years on it untill I could hardly move .. I came off slowly .. half tablet for 3 weeks .. quarter for 3 weeks .. then every other day a quarter .. and was fine.. in fact got my life back to normal arthritic pains ...

But that's just me and it worked for me ... everyone is different .. I'd give McMillan a call and ask their advice ... hopefully the use effects will wear off soon ... Chrissie x

  • Hi RubyT - I was looking on this site to see experiences of coming off of Tamoxifen.  I was fine taking it, no problems accept hot flushes and night sweats which I think are quite normal. I stopped taking the tablets at the end of March (after 5 years) and I thought these symptoms would go but they seem to have got worse.  I now also have a lot of arthritic pain which I didn't have before.  I was going to call the breast cancer nurse to see if this is normal. Hope this helps.

  • HI Chriss

Do you mean you had arthritic pains before taking Tamoxifen?
