Letrozole

Hi

I am having a hard time with letrozole. I have been on it 18 months but still depressed and  weepy some 6 months after radiotherapy ended. Also have gut problems for last seven months since start of radiotherapy though doctors say it is unrelated. I am drug sensitive and have autoimmune disease  so changing drug is difficult. I tried Anastrozole for a week but had headaches every day.

Anyone experienced these symptoms after being on Letrozole for a while.

Thank you.

  • Hi

Sorry to hear of the pain. I started with hot flashes sweats mood changes, weight gain not feeling like myself . Then after a year the joint pain started small joints - with Covid I have not been able to see if I can row again- one of my activities.  For me the sweats and flashes have calmed down.  Gut issues better after probiotics and antibiotics I hope that holds.  Crying still an issue 18 months in. I just dissolve into tears even when out on a walk.  moodiness bad and I feel sometimes I can't keep going on like this.

It is a very hard drug to deal with and affects people so differently. I got no help from doctors with side effects and have had to figure out what I can do.

  • Hello Eliza.
You are suffering badly. It sounds horrible. These hormones really are quite challenging.

I am normally a very upbeat person but I feel weighed down already and I am not taking them every day?!! I feel a bit of a 'flake' not being prepared to take them the way you are and like so many others do on this site!! You have a perseverance that I clearly haven't got!

It may be worth challenging the medics again to see if they can assist?? Apparently some antidepressants help with sweating etc. It might help??

As for me well I am going to try to stick with it for abother 3 weeks but not hopeful that I can do this!!
A dear friend is coming to sit in the garden with me this afternoon. She is a year from her double mastectomy and now  taking Tymoxifen. It has had all sorts of negative repercussions but she is still fighting strong!! I need to take some of her fortitude I think!!!
    Go well.

  • Hi Kebbs

Thanks for responding. I think a factor is always your level of risk of recurrence if you have that. I did an oncotype DX test.  I do want to "run for the hills" and not do any of this stuff. I don't feel like me anymore and 5 years is a long ask for that.

Hang in there. You are in early days

  • Hi Eliza,

yes I had an Onco test done too. My score was 9. Think that's low in the scheme of things. Although as far as I was aware it's only a score that indicates whether or not chemo will help. Under 25 apparently it won't. So I didn't have chemo which of course was a Godsend.

Yes my eye is already on those hills I'm afraid!!

    Stay well. Kebbs x x
